She has been trained in a variety of therapy modalities, client-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, supportive therapy, psychodynamics therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She has worked with individuals with various clinical issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, ADHD, and grief and loss. Dr. Brin has a wonderful ability to connect and empathize with clients, allowing her to use the therapeutic relationship to help her clients move in a positive and healing direction.
Dr. Brin has a special interest in helping clients move through grief and loss. She believes that grief and loss experiences greatly affect all of our lives; whether it be a death of a loved one, loss of a pet, separation, divorce, loss of job, a move into a new house, a child moving to college, a loss or change in health, etc. Dr. Brin believes that internalized, suppressed grief often leads to physical and mental health issues. After experiencing her own grief and loss, Dr. Brin became increasingly aware of the vast of conflicting emotions associated with grief and was intrigued by the verbal and nonverbal messages she received from others in response to her loss. Looking to explore this further, she found The Grief and Recovery Institute and participated in The Grief Recovery Method Certification Program®. As a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, Dr. Brin helps to provide a safe, supportive environment in which the client can explore old beliefs about dealing with loss, identify what losses have affected one's life, and help the client to take the steps necessary to complete the pain associated with those losses, allowing the client to find meaning and move forward.
Dr. Brin earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Michigan State University, and her Masters and Doctorate degrees from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. She is trained in EMDR I and II, and is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®. Dr. Brin is a member of the American Psychological Association and American Psychosocial Oncology Association.
